Rachel Anne McAdams
Rachel Anne McAdams is the daughter of
Sandra Kay (Gale), an Ontario nurse, and Lance Frederick McAdams a truck driver
as well as furniture mover. She was born in London, Ontario on November 17th
1978. She is Englishand is Welsh-, Irish--, and Scottish. Rachel started her
journey into acting as a teenager and at the age of 13 was appearing in
Shakespearean productions in summer theater camps. She then was able to
graduate with honors with an honors BFA degree in theater from York University.
After her debut on television on Disney's The Famous Jett Jackson in 1998, she
starred on Canadian TV's Slings and Arrows 2003. This comedy-drama is about the
struggles of Shakespearean theater groups. She won a Gemini Award for her
performance in 2003. The role she played in Mean Girls (2004) as Regina George
instantly landed her on the Hollywood's hot list of young actors. In the
following film she was cast alongside Ryan Gosling as the romantic drama
adaptation of Nicholas Sparks' bestseller The Notebook (2004). This was a huge
hit at the box office and quickly became the most watched romantic drama with a
young audience. Following the film's production, McAdams and Gosling became
engaged and started dating until mid-2007. McAdams her next film was the comedy
Wedding Crashers (2006), the thriller Red Eye (2004), as well as the
holiday-themed drama The Family Stone ((2005)). McAdams also explored
independent film with Married Life (2007) which premiered at Toronto Film
Festival. It also included Pierce Brosnan and Chris Cooper, as well as Patricia
Clarkson. Starring roles in the war drama The Lucky Ones (2007) as well as the
newspaper thriller State of Play (2009) and the romantic comedy The Time
Traveler's Wife (2009) followed , before she appeared alongside Robert Downey
Jr. and Jude Law in Guy Ritchie's international blockbuster Sherlock Holmes
(2009). McAdams was the shrewd producer for Morning Glory (2010). She also was
the fiancee with a materialistic character Owen Wilson in Woody Allen’s
Midnight in Paris (2011). McAdams returned to romantic drama territory with The
Vow (2012), where she played opposite Channing Tatum. McAdams is also in the
film with Ben Affleck in Terrence Malick's To the Wonder (2012) and also
alongside Noomi Rapace in Brian de Palma's thriller Passion (2012).In 2005,
McAdams received ShoWest's "Supporting Actress of the Year" Award as
well as the "Breakthrough Actress of the Year" at the Hollywood Film
Awards
