Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25 1994 she is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She is also a two-time Olympian. She was the American women's Olympic gymnastics team captain for both the 2012 and 2016 "Fierce Five" U.S. teams. At the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, she was awarded a gold medal in the team competition with her co-teammate Gabby Douglas the sole Americans with back-to-back team gold medals. Raisman also took silver in the individual all-around and floor exercise. She is the third most accomplished American gymnast in Olympic history behind Shannon Miller and Simone Biles with six Olympic medals.Raisman was also a member of the gold-winning American teams at the 2011 and 2015 World Championships, and the world bronze medalist on floor exercise in the year 2011. She is also two-time champion of the national championship in floor exercises (2012 and 2015), and the 2012 national champion in balance beam. She is also the reigning national champion for five consecutive years in all-around competitions at national championships (silver and bronze in 2010 2011, 2012 and 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on May 25, 1994, in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), an ex-high school gymnast, and Rick Raisman. Her younger siblings are Brett, Chloe, and Madison. Raisman is Jewish and has stated that she is very proud in being able not only to represent the United States of America but as well as the Jewish community throughout the world. Raisman started gymnastics when she was 18 months. She credits her first attraction to the sport to the "Magnificent Seven", a U.S. women's gymnastics team which won the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. She was a student at Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing until the level 8. Then she joined Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club with coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman graduated from Needham High School in 2012, after completing her senior year through online classes and training for the Olympics.
